On returning from the Sahara Idrisse invited me to move in with his family. So I packed up my gear from Riad Louna, moved in with him and his family and stayed in Fez another week or two.
Idrisse showed me around Fez from a local’s point of view and taught me a good deal about his Islamic faith. He and his family were incredibly warm and friendly.
While I was there a celebration on the birthday of the founder of Fez took place. I hustled down from the rooftop café where I was and jumped into the middle of the procession to photograph the musicians and their dizzying array of traditional clothes. The streets were packed and crowds filled the rooftops.
When Idrisse and Siham found out it was my birthday they had a traditional Moroccan band come and perform a cleansing of their new addition that was just finished being built. I was able to photograph and draw the musicians while they played.
