Doc Savage Original Cover Painting

5,000.00

Original cover painting for Doc Savage Annual #1 from DC Comics.

Oil on Jute mounted on Birch Board

22 x 30

Working on this piece was a dream come true. I have always been a huge Doc Savage fan. I was drawn to the character because of the James Bama covers from Bantam books when they were reprinting the whole 181 super sagas. I quickly found myself engrossed in the stories. So when DC asked me to do a Doc Savage cover I was thrilled.

I did an homage to the Bama covers, basically, including the gun that Bama put into his work.

The turnaround time was pretty quick on this piece and since I was working in oils I found myself drying (read "cooking") the painting by leaning it against my open gas oven! The Vermillion in the piece refused to dry. So it sat on top of a file cabinet at DC Comics offices for awhile before it could be shot or scanned.
